Wonderful to have the opportunity to present at the World Trails Conference.
This is a global gathering of trail experts, trail managers and builders, trail destinations, enthusiasts and academics came together to share knowledge, network and ensure the benefits trails offer society continue to be sustainable and supported around the world.
Dr Miles Holmes and Dr. Matthew Zylstra presented on the application of NatureFix and the installation of Nature Wellness Trails. This presentation highlighted the value of increasing our understanding on the health benefits of nature and how these learnings can be better applied in a trail setting. A key take home message being that it is not just contact with nature but it is the nature of the contact that matters most – put simply, it has to be more than a walk in the park.
To access and amplify the health benefits of nature, the evidence is clear: we must move beyond only having nature as a backdrop and rather work toward building a meaningful relationship that increases our foundational nature connectedness.
NatureFix’s Nature Wellness Trails offers an opportunity to transform trail greenspaces into wellness places to ultimately:
- Enhance user health outcomes;
- Diversify user engagement with trails and the types of activities that can be enjoyed when using trails; and
- Increase place appreciation and associated pro-nature behaviours when engaging with trails.
